Copa del Rey trophy taken to Peter Lim Scholarship -Singapore Olympic Foundation event
Valencia CF president Anil Murthy accompanied the Copa del Rey trophy won by the club to Singapore on Thursday, as it took pride of place in the awards gala for the Peter Lim Scholarship – Singapore Olympic Foundation.
The scholarship programme for young athletes was set up in 2010, with an initial donation of 6.53m euros. For the period between 2021 and 2030, Valencia CF majority shareholder Peter Lim has increased his donation by 19.6m euros. Some 13m will go towards a new project to create a community for children from disadvantaged families, in order to help them to reach their true potential.
The guest of honour at the ceremony was Mr. Heng Swee Keat, Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister, who highlighted the importance of the donations made by Peter Lim:
“It is a generous donation that forms part of the success of the Singapore national team, which has made the entire country proud,” he said.
Also in attendance were: Singapore National Olympic Committee president (and parliamentary spokesman) Tan Chuan-Jin; VCF Foundation president, Valencia CF board member and Singapore Olympic Committee member Ng Ser Miang; and Australian swimmer Libby Trickett, a winner of four Olympic medals, alongside numerous recipients of the scholarship.

More than 2,600 young people have received scholarships from the Peter Lim Foundation
Some 2,642 young athletes have benefitted from a Peter Lim Scholarship, 280 in the past year. They have competed in 44 disciplines, with the aim of participating in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Phillipines.

Peter Lim’s contribution to Singapore’s Olympic movement is acknowledged
During the gala, the Singapore Olympic movement presented Peter Lim with the ‘2019 Olympics in Action’ award, for his contributions to the growth of sport amongst those less well-off, and for his help in communities.
